2021’s fastest growing marketplace businesses

An online marketplace is a type of e-commerce website where product or service information is provided by multiple third parties. 2020 demonstrated the flexibility and resilience of the consumer-facing marketplace model, as many businesses managed to pivot—and even thrive—within a restricted and transformed consumer market.

Compared to the 2020 rankings, there are five newcomers to the top-ten list of fastest growing marketplace startups and private businesses, holding rankings six through ten. Airbnb, Doordash, Postmates, and Poshmark, all in the previous top ten, have “graduated” from the list because they have been acquired or filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the stock market.
