What VPN usage tells us about WFH

The new norm of working from home (WFH) has changed when and how long we work.

NordVPN Teams is a New York-based company that provides virtual private networks (VPNs) to businesses. Analyzing more than 10,000 companies, they looked at the amount of data being sent via servers to calculate employees' working hours.

Workers in the US, UK, Canada, and Austria are putting in more hours than before. In those countries, WFH has led to a 2.5-hour increase in the average working day.

Part of this work increase may be occurring during lunch hours. NordVPN reported no significant drop of business VPN usage at lunch time, indicating shorter lunch breaks while working remotely.
