Stop Asian Hate
Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have seen an uptick in hate incidents reported over the past year during the pandemic. The research group Stop AAPI Hate has collected 3,800 incidents from March 2020 to February 2021 that show:
70% of incidents involve verbal harassment, including racial slurs and name-calling.
60% of discriminatory acts occur in a business or public street.
70% of incidents were reported by women.
“The increasing anti-Asian violence in this country is pretty shocking and deeply concerning. At Amazon and AWS, we stand in solidarity w/ the Pan-Asian community.” - Andy Jassy
Editor’s note: The AAPI population accounted for 6.1% of the US population, or 20 million citizens, as of 2019. (source: U.S. Census Bureau)
