Tips for Managing a Remote Team
Have weekly or bi-weekly 1:1 (one on one) calls with employees for 30 minutes to check in with the person, not the work.
Topics: Feedback first, then strategic, then tactical. Many managers make the mistake of doing this the other direction.
Always have an agenda, but keep it light. This is the exception to the rule of running tight meetings.
Avoid direct messages (e.g., Slack). Having discussions in public channels to make yourself more accessible and visible. Set the example for others to do the same.
Document things yourself. Don’t delegate all documentation.
