The history of Amazon (part 3 of 5)
From 2006 to 2010, Amazon found its stride with product launches to enable builders (e.g., AWS and FBA), acquisitions, and market innovations.
“It’s always Day 1. There is always more invention in the future. Always more customer innovation and new ways to obsess over customers.” - Jeff Bezos in 2009
Innovative launches and acquisitions galore
2006: Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) allows other developers to store computer files on Amazon's servers—it is among the founding services that will be AWS. Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) enables third-party sellers to use Amazon’s fulfillment centers to pick, pack, and ship orders to customers.
2007: Kindle launches and sells out in 6 hours. AmazonFresh launches allowing customers to order groceries online.
2008: Amazon acquires seven companies, including Audible, the online audiobook service.
2009: Amazon acquires Zappos, an online shoe and clothing retailer.
2010: Amazon acquires Diapers.com (Quidsi).
