The global gaming market is exploding, spanning all ages and demographics. There are 2.7 billion gamers worldwide. Growth is driven by the widespread adoption of smartphones.
Among a survey of 4,000 gamers in China, Japan, US, and UK:
84% said video games help connect them with others who have similar interests.
77% said video games help them stay in touch with friends.
46% identify as female (busting the stereotype that gamers are young men)

The state media also noted : "adding that no industry should be allowed to develop in a manner that will “destroy a generation.”
