February 18: Physical Differences: Short Stature
“I’m proud of my dwarfism. If more people understood facts about dwarfism, they would be more inclusive and understanding; knowledge is power.”
Fact of the Day 1 is committed to diversity and inclusion and looks for ways to amplify underrepresented voices and empower diverse communities. Without further ado, today’s fact:

Physical Differences: Short Stature
People with dwarfism have short stature (adult height under 4 ft 10 in or 147 cm). Most little people (LP) are born to parents of average height. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) raised awareness with his wit and intellect to overcome the prejudices little people face.
“Growing up as a LP, I was often stared at, teased, and bullied. Strangers would take my picture. Leadership and sports helped me thrive. At work, dwarfism doesn’t impact my ability to help my customers - Amazon Sellers - grow their businesses,” says Lucy Williams, of the Amazon New Seller Success team.

Did you appreciate the fact today?
Thanks for bringing awareness for us vertically challenged folks! I am 4'8.5" and finding work is challenging sometimes because of my youthful looks and height. Although every situation is different, it feels like I am not taken seriously because of this (mainly for first impressions). Not only do we face prejudice in our everyday lives, but sometimes in the work force as well. I'm glad Lucy mentioned that being little does not affect our working abilities! If anything, it helps us thrive; what [we may feel] others don't see in us, only makes us work that much harder to prove what we are actually capable of and more. This is what makes us exceed expectations!
