Inequality of Dating App Likes
Circulated: November 8, 2019
Hinge is a dating app where you can like other people as a sign of attractiveness. On Hinge, men send a first like more than three times as often as women. When women do initiate, they tend to do so on a smaller segment of the male population.
Half of all likes sent to women go to 25% of women.
Half of all likes sent to men go to 15% of men. (Less equally distributed.)
BONUS:
The Gini index measures inequality from 0 to 1. The closer the Gini index is to 0, the more equally likes are distributed. Straight females on Hinge show a Gini index of 0.376 (more equally distributed) compared to 0.542 for straight males (less equally distributed).
