Inventors at Amazon

Circulated: March 13, 2020

A patent is a right granted to an inventor by the U.S. Patent and Trade Office that permits the inventor to exclude others from making, selling, or using the invention for a period of time. The U.S. patent system encourages unique and useful inventions.

What technologies does Amazon tend to patents? The state of investment in innovation at Amazon is strong. Customer obsession and innovation go hand in hand. Examples include Kindle, Fire TV, Echo, product recommendations, Prime Now, robotics, Prime Air, Amazon Go, and of course AWS.

Is there recognition for filing a patent? Yes. Amazonians regularly get named on filings and receive recognition in a variety of forms. For filing a patent application, Amazonians receive an award shaped like a puzzle piece for each filing, and when a pending patent is approved — a process that can take about two years — a second customized blue puzzle piece with inventor name and patent number is awarded.
