Celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising.
Patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBTQ Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ Americans.
Today and throughout the month, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, and concerts around the world.

The mental pain experienced by LGBTQ people can be profound, lifelong, irreparable, and difficult to detect (if the person had to learn at some point how to cover it up well, "hide", etc.). Please consider giving someone a literal or virtual hug (as may seem appropriate) this month and saying something like, "No matter what happens, I love you as you are." Happy June, folks. :-)
