Introducing Amazon Kindle

After three years of development, Amazon unveiled Kindle in November 2007, marking a revolutionary inflection point in digital reading.

With 90,000 books available for instant download at launch, Kindle sold out in 5.5 hours. A major attraction was the inclusion of unlimited 3G data connection, an innovative feature that contributed to Kindle’s inclusion on Oprah’s Favorite Things the following year.

Kindle’s library has grown substantially every year, pointing to Amazon’s mission to enable the download of any published book in the world in 60 seconds. As of 2018, there were over six million confirmed ebooks available for purchase.
