Amazon Closing Retail Stores

Amazon will be closing down all Amazon Books physical bookstores, as well as Amazon 4-star and Amazon Pop Up shops—totaling 68 stores in the US and UK. Including Whole Foods, Amazon currently has 672 physical stores in North America.

The sales growth of the physical stores is lagging significantly behind the company’s overall retail business. Even Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh outlets reported lower sales in 2021 compared to 2018. 

Amazon will continue to focus on Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and Amazon Go.
