Global air travel fatality rate
The safety, ease, and convenience of global air travel is understood as a given in the twenty-first century. This reliable safety of airplanes has not always been guaranteed. Previous decades have seen much higher air travel fatality rates than the comparably negligible rates of today. The global airline fatality rate per passenger mile was 200 times higher in the 1970s. Since then, fatality rates have steadily declined as overall global passenger airline miles have soared.
