Redfin’s Balance of Meeting In Person While Working Remotely

In mid-March, Redfin’s* CEO Glenn Kelman sent a note to all employees. Here are three main ideas about how to balance meeting in person while working remotely:

  1. Lunch on Tuesday and Wednesdays, But Come Only If You Want

Execs are going to work from the office Tuesday and Wednesday. The Seattle office will serve lunches on those days.

  2. If You Don’t Get Together Every Week, Get Together Once a Quarter

As managers, as employees, the time has come to invest in our culture. If you run a team at Redfin, get your team together. This will cost money, which we’re happy to spend.

  3. If There’s an Offsite, Make the Effort to Be There

We expect you to make the effort to participate in person at an offsite/onsite when your team decides to meet. Try to meet once every three months. You can spend money on lunches or dinners for the team, and an occasional activity too.

* About Redfin: Redfin is a full-service real estate brokerage. The Seattle-based company was founded in 2004 and went public in 2017.
