Artificial Intelligence and PhD Graduates

The majority of new North American PhD graduates in computer science are specializing in artificial intelligence. The 2021 AI Index Report revealed the number of new PhDs focused on AI reached an all-time high in 2019, up 77% since 2010. AI/machine learning graduates account for over 22% of new computer science PhDs.

Most of these new PhD grads are international students (64%) and 81% are staying in the United States after graduation.
