Since 1950, 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced. Only 9% of that plastic waste has ever been recycled.

Incinerated: 996
Landfill/Nature: 6,557
Most plastic ever produced still exists in some form. Only 12% has been incinerated, and the rest usually takes more than 400 years to degrade fully.
If current trends continue, by 2050 there will be approximately 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills.

Nice one! I think it would be great to see the data of plastic metric tons increasing decade by decade since 1950 to 8.3 Billion and showing the forecast with the trend to reach 12 Billion by 2050 along with root cause and ways to reduce it.
