Adequate sleep is essential for everyone; it helps boost the immune system, support weight regulation, increase mental and physical performance, and reduce stress.
An average adult requires 7 to 8 hours of sleep, yet 30% of Americans report getting 6 or less hours of sleep a night.
Here are 10 tips for healthy sleep:
Stick to a sleep schedule
Sleep in a dark, cool, gadget-free bedroom
Exercise daily but before the evening
Avoid caffeine and nicotine
Avoid alcoholic drinks before bed
Avoid large meals and beverages late at night
Do not take naps after 3 pm
Take a hot bath or shower before bed
Get at least 30 minutes of natural sunlight per day
Do not lie in bed awake—get up until you feel sleepy
