“The common thread [between Amazon’s businesses] is an approach. We have a very distinctive approach that we have been honing and refining for 22 years.

  1. Customer Obsession instead of, for example, competitor obsession, technology obsession, product obsession, or business model obsession. Not just listening to customers, but inventing on their behalf.

  1. Eager to invent and pioneer because customers are always dissatisfied, even when they think they’re happy. They actually do want a better way but don’t know yet what that should be. 

  1. Long-term oriented thinking in 5 to 7-year time frames. If you start to think that way, it changes how you spend your time and improves your ability to look around corners.”
