Recycling habits in Norway
In Norway more than 97% of plastic bottles are recycled. That’s because Norwegians are unusually enthusiastic about recycling—and also because a large retail network (including reverse vending machines) exists for bottle collection, supported by a government-run deposit-refund strategy.
In other words, Norway has two key elements for making reverse supply chains work: public participation and infrastructure.
Great fact of the day today. I love it. Small note, it will be great if we get further details of their infrastructure and public participation. For example, how are they doing to encourage citizens to collaborate and what is the key driver of that infrastructure?
Cheers.
Fascinating!!! I wish the US would set up some infrastructure. Even those who make an effort to recycle get confused about what's recyclable and what's not, and end up throwing all manner of items into the bin. I feel like we could be so much smarter about reuse.
