Tesla owners have a new opportunity to lower their car insurance.
The automaker has officially launched its own insurance using real-time driving behavior, where safe drivers will be offered discounts based on data their car collects. The resulting safety score will aggregate data from:
Collision warnings
Hard braking
Aggressive turning
Following distance
Forced autopilot disengagement
Tesla claims that this safety score will be the primary factor in assessing cost, and that traditional policy determinants like age, gender, and accident history will not be evaluated.
