Blue Origin’s Mission
Back in 1982, eighteen-year-old future Amazon founder Jeff Bezos told the Miami Herald that he one day wanted to build space hotels, amusement parks, and colonies for millions of people orbiting the earth.
In 2000, Bezos founded Blue Origin with the goal of achieving “millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.” The company’s three key programs include:
New Shepard: a reusable rocket capable of carrying astronauts and research payloads on 11-minute suborbital flights into space. Launched successfully in November 2015.
New Glenn: a reusable rocket that Blue Origin calls, “the vehicle that will build the road to space,” capable of carrying passengers and heavy payloads into earth’s orbit and beyond, scheduled to launch in 2021.
Blue Moon: a versatile lander to deliver cargo and crew to the lunar surface, a major milestone in the company’s mission to establish sustained human presence on the moon, first mission scheduled for 2024.
