Amazon at a high-level

  • Founded in 1994 (28 years ago); solo founder.

  • IPO in 1997. At the time, Jeff Bezos owned 47% of the company. 

  • 1.3 million full-time and part-time employees worldwide (as of December 2021)

  • There are currently 38,000 job openings.

  • Jeff Bezos is still the largest shareholder. He owns 9.8% of the company, worth $106 billion.

Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, joined in 1997 and owns 0.02% of the company, worth $200 million.
