Earthquake Detection on Your Phone
Android has recently partnered with world-renown seismologists to introduce the Android Earthquake Alerts System.
Because smartphones house tiny accelerometers capable of detecting even the slightest movements, Android phones can serve as mini seismometers, and millions of Android phones linked together can serve as the world’s largest earthquake detection network.
Aggregating this data can help to pinpoint an earthquake’s epicenter, and provide immediate safety information to those in affected areas.
