In 1965, CEOs made 21x the average worker's pay. By 2020, they made 351x.
In 2020, a CEO at one of the top 350 firms in the U.S. was paid $24 million on average. More than 80% of those CEOs’ pay is stock-related (e.g. stock awards based on growth goals).
CEOs are easy targets because most folks can’t understand the value they bring to a company and they don’t entertain us. But, what if we compared the top 20 NBA or NFL players’ salaries to the average or median American salary and also how ticket prices have multiplied over the same period.
